Crimsonland
You're in Crimsonland. It's a pretty horrible place and there are many monsters set out to kill you. Pick your weapons and perks and defend yourself.
This is as top-down shooter as they come. The levels are bare, no obstacles of any kind, and there are mobs being spawned. I would say randomly, but I'm pretty sure their spawns are preset in the campaign mode.
The game has a lot of content; about 30 weapons and 55 perks I think, most of which you have to unlock. Though I haven't figured out how to activate perks the weapons just come as random drops from mobs. I think the unlock rate is preset by quest mode.
I suppose the main drawback is the barren levels themselves. They could do with a bit of paint and perhaps some walls or obstacles or something. Besides that, the game is a shooter to the bone.
Verdict: I think this is a good shooter even with the lack of environmental influence. I've grown to love top down shooters a little more ever since Isaac showed me the way. This game has plenty of unlocks but even so to be honest I'm afraid that the lack of other meta will make for stale gameplay after a while.
